After graduating from Washington State University with a BA emphasis in Architecture, Jon moved to Whidbey Island in 1990 and started up his own design firm located in Coupeville. In 1994 he contracted with then owner of Cascade Custom Homes, Mel Gill, as their estimator and architectural designer. Being a longtime resident of Whidbey Island and having a passion for design and the home building industry, it seemed like the next natural step for Jon was to purchase Cascade when the opportunity became available in 2000. Jon’s commitment to transcend the homebuilding experience for his clients has built an award winning reputation and helped hundreds of clients build their custom dream home. Jon has managed to run a viable company by planning for limited future resources and economical down turns. In addition to being a WSU graduate, he is a National Association of Home Builders Certified Graduate Builder, Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist and a Certified BuiltGreen™ Builder.
Growing up on Whidbey Island helped shape Jay’s love of small towns as well as his family and faith. At an early age, Jay was a builder at heart working on small projects for his father’s real estate firm. Once he graduated high school, he moved to Wenatchee and dove headfirst into the building trades working for a custom home builder in the Chelan Valley. His love for the building industry, the people he meets, the dreams he gets to fulfill and the lifelong relationships he forms is what drives him today.
Jay has been involved with the building industry’s local associations. He was the President of SICBA for two consecutive years and is still actively involved on the board. Jay is a Senior Officer with the State Building Association, BIAW, and is also a member of CWHBA. He holds the coveted State of Washington title of Certified Builder, as well as NAHB Designations of Certified Graduate Builder and Certified Green Builder.
Going “Green” is interpreted differently in many forms, products, and industries. Here, we will give you an overview of what it means to go “Green” when it comes to building your new custom home. Cascade Custom Homes and Design is a member of SKAGIT ISLAND COUNTY BUILDERS ASSOCIATION. Owner, Jon Roberts, was on the Board of Directors 2005-2010 and was a contributor to the associations BuiltGreen™ program. A SICBA BuiltGreen™ home receives a certificate of merit and is awarded a 1, 2 or 3 star rating. The BuiltGreen™ rating takes into consideration site protection practices, recycling procedures, indoor air quality, systems and products incorporated into the home, and the type of construction. Read on to learn how you can incorporate the BuiltGreen™ program into your new custom home.
